Going beyond our borders with Global Health Program
Osler serves one of the most diverse communities in the country, which is why we are thinking big – globally big – to learn new ways to improve the care we provide at home. In May 2015, a team of Osler staff and physicians travelled to the Punjab region of India to learn more about health care in that part of the world and how we can use that knowledge to enhance the care we provide to our own community.
On their 12-day tour, Osler’s five-person Global Health team visited Chandigarh, Ludhiana, Amritsar and other nearby communities to meet with health care leaders and visit hospital-affiliated clinics. During these eye-opening visits, the team identified important research and education opportunities to enhance health care delivery in our local community and around the world.
After careful review, Osler selected two hospitals in the Ludhiana district to work with – Shaheed Kartar Singh Sarabha Ayurvedic Medical College & Hospital and Dayanand Medical College & Hospital – where we will focus on service delivery, training/education and research, as well as Apollo Hospitals, a multi-national hospital chain, on research.
Thanks to these new international relationships and sharing opportunities, Osler can make important contributions to the homeland of many of our local residents while providing enhanced care to our growing and diverse population at home.
